Altman’s career began as an entrepreneur, starting Loopt in 2005 while attending Stanford University before dropping out. His experience at Loopt, acquired for over $43 million, laid the groundwork for his subsequent move into the venture capital and startup accelerator space.

As President of Y Combinator, Altman significantly expanded the organization’s reach and influence, mentoring numerous successful startups. He recently stated OpenAI would not go public this year, an IPO now would come at an 'ill advised moment'.
