Before becoming CEO of OpenAI in 2019, Sam Altman was widely known for his leadership as President of Y Combinator from 2014 to 2019.
Prior to that, he co founded and served as CEO of Loopt, a mobile social networking service, which was acquired in 2012.

Entrepreneurial Roots

Altman’s career began as an entrepreneur, starting Loopt in 2005 while attending Stanford University before dropping out. His experience at Loopt, acquired for over $43 million, laid the groundwork for his subsequent move into the venture capital and startup accelerator space.

From Accelerator to AI Leader

As President of Y Combinator, Altman significantly expanded the organization’s reach and influence, mentoring numerous successful startups. Now as OpenAI CEO, Altman maintains a high profile, evident by his 9/100 influence score and 86 tracked signals related to Artificial Intelligence. He recently stated OpenAI would not go public this year, an IPO now would come at an 'ill advised moment'.
